Aldus Manutius, born in 1449 in Bassiano, Italy, and died on February 6, 1515, in Venice, was a groundbreaking printer, publisher, and typographer of the Renaissance. Known as "Aldus Manutius the Elder," he founded the Aldine Press and was the first to print many Greek and Latin classics in portable book formats. He notably invented the italic typeface, which has greatly influenced modern graphic design. The dolphin and anchor symbol, featured in his Aldine logo, embodies his life motto, "Hurry up slowly."
