PR exposes a business or an idea to an audience by often using unpaid third parties as outlets. This is often done by working together with the media, by making speeches on special occasions, or by some attention seeking gesture such as making a donation that is then reported by others. This means that PR is often more effective than paid advertising, sometimes even being cheaper than the alternative.
