  1. Counting Currency For Special Education K-12 Next Slide

  2. Main Menu The objective of this Power Point is to teach your student how to count currency, mainly coins. It is a simple process and all you need to do is follow the arrows and read the instructions, then allow the student to do the rest. Press the “next page” button when you are ready to get started. This will be your home button, and will take you to this page if you ever need it. This button will be your return or back button This button will be your next page button.

  3. Counting Currency Sections Here you can select a section you would wish to start with, or just go through each section starting with section #1. Section #1- Amounts of Coins and Bills Section #2- Writing Money Section #3- Mixing it all up

  5. Penny This is a penny. A penny= 1 cent

  6. Nickel This is a nickel. A nickel= 5 cents.

  7. Dime This is a dime. A dime= 10 cents.

  8. Quarter This is a quarter. A quarter= 25 cents.

  9. Dollar Bill This is a dollar bill. A dollar bill= 1 dollar or 100 cents.

  10. Five Dollar Bill This is a five dollar bill. A five dollar bill= 5 dollars or 500 cents.

  11. Ten Dollar Bill This is a ten dollar bill. A ten dollar bill= 10 dollars or 10,000 cents.

  12. Quiz 1 Give the value to each of these coins. The answers are on the next slide.

  14. Writing Currency 1 1 Penny can be written as: 1¢ -or- 1 cent -or- $0.01

  15. Writing Currency 2 1 dollar can be written as: $1 -or- $1.00

  16. Writing Currency 3 Adding cents to a dollar is as simple as this: 1 dollar + 53 cents = $1.53 -and- 2 dollars + 44 cents = $2.44

  17. Writing Currency 4 Here are some other examples: 5 dollars + 87 cents = $5.87 7 dollars + 31 cents = $7.31

  25. Quiz 3 If James has 3 quarters and 1 dime, and Jill has 6 nickels and 1 dime; who has more money?

  26. Answer James would have more money, because he has 85 cents compared to Jill’s 40 cents.
