  1. Discussion session Sep. 21th Questions on the low-lying (“pygmy”) dipole strength Conveiners: G. Colò and T. Nakatsukasa Contributors: Y. Kanada-Enyo, M. Matsuo, K. Matsuyanagi, K. Yoshida

  2. Questions • Structure of the PDR (IS/IV etc.) In particular: is the collectivity basis-dependent or not ? • Is is possible to define x such that: if | Sn | < x, then continuum shouldn’t be neglected; if | Sn | > x and/or no high resolution is needed, discrete RPA may be enough. • Deformation • Correlation with S

  3. Conclusions Tentative characterization of PDR: • should be different from threshold effect; • should be decoupled from GDR; • should NOT be 2-phonon state; • more than a few % of TRK sum rule should be found in a region of few MeV; • transition densities should be non-negligible at the surface (mainly neutron t.d.). Some definition of “collectivity” may be useful provided it is proven to be basis-independent.
