Overview • Was built in 2nd century B.C during the Samnite period • Named after a statue of a dancing faun in front of the house • The house of the faun is one of the largest houses in all of Pompeii • An abundance of rooms • Street front shops available to rent out • One of the most luxurious houses in the entire Roman empire • It housed some of the most distinguished families • Holds many extravagant pieces of art; mosaics, paintings, and sculptures included • Showcases Roman culture better than most houses in Rome itself
