  1. Biomechanics of Human Movement Balance, Follow Through, Leverage (levers) Torque, and Weight Transfer

  2. Balance Definition: • Ability to stay in a point of nothingness with no outward tension Examples: • Defensive stance • Medicine ball push ups.

  3. Pictures of Balance • Erectors, quads, and abs are used for balance

  4. Follow Through Definition: • The completion of a form of movement that results in relaxation Examples: • Golf club ends up over the shoulder • Tennis racquet ends up past the body

  5. Images of Follow Through • Muscles used (in golf) include quadriceps, hamstrings, abductors, adductors, obliques, gluteus maximus, latissimus dorsi, trapezius, pectorals, deltoids, triceps and biceps. That’s a LOT of muscles!

  6. Leverage (Levers) Definitions: • The exertion of force by means of a lever • A device you apply force to Example: • Bicep curl

  7. Pictures of Leverage • In torque, muscles act as effort forces to move loads.

  8. Torque Definition: • A twisting force that often causes rotation Example: • Twisting Oblique Crunch

  9. Pictures of Torque • Trapezius, deltoids, abdominals, pectorals, and Latissimus Dorsi are used in torque.

  10. Weight Transfer Definition: • Stepping power • The ability to shift weight from one point to another. Example: • Throwing

  11. Pictures of Weight Transfer • Weight transfer works with the quadriceps, latissimus dorsi, and trapezius.
