  5. How do values and essentials interact Value-Centered conservation focuses on the present and political process. Essentialist-centered conservation focuses on the maintenance of the object—irrespective of its current social value

  6. Life Cycle model of heritage attractions What is a product in heritage tourism? • Product assumes consumption. The heritage tourist “consumes” the “attractions”—those opportunities for experience special to the heritage destination. Many heritage destinations offer seasonally special events as attractions to tourists. These festive events offer a concentration of heritage experiences during a short period of time. The question of will heritage tourism last is in part the question of the life cycle of the tourist attractions. The movement to reconstruct, to excavate, to re-purpose historic resources is, at its core, diminishing the future opportunities to explore

  7. Social Engagement is not sustainable Partnerships are temporary alignments of social forces, not permanent relationships. There are no strategic goals that are sustainable. Strategies focus on outcomes. Strategies are time-based. Having monetized the conservation and presentation of heritage the resources are vulnerable to prioritizing and delaying stewardship goals.
