  2. Seventy Minutes of Class • 5 minutes maximum opening (agendas, announcements, quick warm-up) • 3-20 minute rotations (Tutorial, Computers, Reading Center) • 5 minute cool down & clean-up and

Lexile Determination • Incoming students take a test that determines their lexile level, which is used to determine the level of books that they choose from during silent reading. • Lexile level is roughly correlated with grade level proficiencies in a table. Remember, it is ONE measure of your child’s ability and is used in combination with other data.

  4. Tutorial • Thematic Units that center on important reading skills and vocabulary development • Small group instruction 1:5 average size

  5. Software • Exposes students to nonfiction passages • Works with them on word recognition and reading fluency • Addresses spelling

  6. Reading • Books at four different levels • Involves student developing their own vocabulary awareness • Involves students in critical thinking skills through graphic organizers and quick write questions • Culminates with a Reading Counts! Test
