Saxon’s Salutations August Newsletter • Save Our Dates • Monday, August 25th- All paperwork due • Monday, September 1st- No school Labor Day • Thursday, September 11th- Chickfila Sprit Night 5:30-7 • Friday, September 12th- No School Teacher Inservice Day • Monday, September 22nd- Open House 6-7 • Tuesday, September 23rd- Bear Parade Bears and shoe boxes due ( more info. To come ) Curriculum Reading- This month we will focus our reading lessons on school rules and character education. We have already learned about how to be a bucket filler and we are striving to fill other’s buckets each day. Check out our class webpage to see pictures of our bucket filler lessons. The week of August 25th-29th we will spend each day learning about a rule for our class. We will learn the hand sign for the rule, and read a story about a favorite character learning to follow that rule. Ask your child to show you the hand sign for each class rule! Phonics- This month we will begin our vowel study. We will spend a whole week on each vowel to ensure we have a strong understanding of it’s sound and how to read and write the letter. Have your child point out vowels when reading together. Sight Words- This month we will begin learning some of the 100 sight words required this year. The month’s words are listed below by week. Please practice these words with your child. Your child must be able to read these words at flash speed, and write them independently. Aug. 25-29th I, see, my, a Writing- This month we will work on writing our first and last name, our sight words, and vowels. We will also begin writing sentences using our sight words. Math- This month we will focus on counting and cardinality. We will focus on counting aloud to 20 and counting objects to 10. We will also learn how to identify written numbers 1-10 and how to write them independently. Have your child count out household items for practice. Science/ Social Studies- This month we will begin our lessons on time lines and chronological order. We will begin by learning about our class’ daily timeline/schedule. We will also begin learning the scientific method and about our 5 senses. • Important Information • Below is a list of the required paperwork for back to school. If I have circled any of the listed forms, I have not yet received that form. • PG. 59 AUP form • PG. 60 Directory Options • PG. 61 Conduct Code • Bus Rules • Media Center Form • Dr. Joyner’s Form • Homework calendar will begin in September. Please complete the assignment with your child each nigh and return to school in their folder each day. I will check for completion each day, and collect at the end of the month. • Scholastic Book Club forms have been sent home. If you wish to order, please submit your order by the due date. • Student of the week will begin in September. Each Friday a student will be drawn randomly. All students will have a turn to be student of the week. The student of the week will bring Teddy home for the weekend. On our webpage Please check out our webpage often!
