PVCC Mission The Mission of Paradise Valley Community College is to educate the whole person and to serve our students and our communities by providing learning opportunities that are designed to help them achieve their goals. Core Values Learning is the core value of Paradise Valley Community College. PVCC recognizes learning at three levels: Student, Employee and Organizational -- and the integrative relationship between the three levels. We value learning and scholarship for our students and for our employees. We also value organizational learning as a means to the continuous improvement of PVCC.

  7. First Order Change Individual - Awareness • Typically involves change efforts at the awareness, knowledge, or skill level. • Content-Focused with information about diverse groups

  8. Second Order Change Individual – Paradigm Shift • Cognitive Restructuring with challenges to underlying assumptions • Intensive interactive or experiential emphasis in program design. • Examples: Immersion Experiences, Study Abroad

  9. First Order Change Group - Membership • Combination of a group is altered and new members added • No change in group norms or goals • Diversity is a viewed in numeric terms rather than interpersonal dynamics.

  10. Second Order Change Group - Restructuring • Restructuring a group with a new mission, goals and members. • Examines group makeup, values, and goals prior to changing the group. • Planning retreat which re-examines philosophy, values and goals.

  11. 1st Order Change Institutional - Programmatic • Intervention aimed at institution or division which addresses multicultural issues • Creation of new multicultural affairs position or cultural center. • Mission statement includes diversity

  12. Second Order Change Group - Systemic • Direct examination of institutional values and goals. • Evaluation linked to multicultural values, efforts and competencies. • Requiring multicultural initiatives to link to budget allocations
