Introduction • Identifies key trends and issues • Informs the delivery of the strategy to build a strong VCS in South Gloucestershire – appendix 1 • Informs VCS support organisations on the delivery of their services and support priorities • 310 organisations completed the survey - an increase of 43% compared with 2011 • 31% response rate • 390 organisations have completed the survey in the last two years

Methodology Similar to last year to enable comparisons but some additional sections to inform policy and service delivery:- • Enhanced section on Volunteering to inform the Volunteer Centre’s service delivery and the LSP Strategy on Volunteering • Social Value and Community Capacity Building to inform development of the VCS commissioning strategy

Overview of VCS in South Gloucestershire • Diverse and well established VCS comprised mainly of relatively small organisations • Geographical spread • 466 full time staff and 932 part time staff - average of 2.3 FT employees, 4.3 PT employees and 20 volunteers. • No significant change since last year • Wide range of activities – appendices 2 and 3

Outcome 1A VCS actively involved in the development of policy and strategy • VCS organisations actively contributing to policy and service delivery through contracts and service level agreements • Majority with South Gloucestershire Council but also NHS South Gloucestershire, police and town and parish councils • 54% of organisations with contracts or SLAs felt that commissioners consulted them on the development of services

Outcome 4A VCS that has the capacity to promote and manage volunteering • 78% of organisations use volunteers to deliver services and / or projects • 282 organisations provide opportunities for 4,763 volunteers • Services and opportunities for local people provided through 10,709 volunteering hours each week

Other positive messages • 80% of responding organisations had an equal opportunities statement and 50% had a more comprehensive equalities and diversity policy • 86% involved beneficiaries in the development of their services using a variety of techniques • Growing recognition of the social value of the voluntary and community sector (see next slide)
