This document outlines the reprocurement process for Janet's telecommunications contracts, novated in October 2010, with all customer connections unified under the same end date of March 29, 2014. Janet provides connectivity through its central London Points of Presence (PoPs) at ULCC, Imperial College, and King’s College. A customer requirements gathering was conducted via a Survey Monkey questionnaire and site visits from October to January. The upcoming Janet6 infrastructure will offer initial access to the Janet backbone at 60Gb, with dark fibre delivery expected by March 2013 as the network transitions from SJ5.

Existing set up • Janet novated the telecommunications contracts from LMN in October 2010. • All customer connections now have the same end date – 29th March 2014. • Customers receive their Janet connectivity – Primary or back up via a Janet PoP. • Current PoP’s are all in central London.

Requirements Gathering • Questionnaire via survey monkey – issued 20th November 2012 and closed 31st January 2013. • Customer visits – Frances and myself have been visiting HE customers between October and January. • Requirements gathering during the RSC London Janet services day. • Analysing individual customer bandwidth usage to project forward to Q4 2015 to anticipate growth.

Procurement • During RNO in sourcing Janet would take the opportunity to refresh the regional network infrastructure. • Janet6 has undertaken this element already for London. • We are therefore looking for point to point connections to customer premises as before. • Janet will use our existing Telecommunications Framework for this procurement. • Contract length: • 3 years with options to extend for a further 3 years. • Price refresh during year 2 • Technology refresh in year 2
Procurement Timetable 11 week process 5 weeks between issuing the SoR and closure for responses. 3 weeks to evaluate the responses. 3 weeks to reach contract signature The supplier will then have 7 months (144 working days) to deliver the connections.
