  1. Photovoice A participatory research technique whereby people are entrusted with a camera and supplement visual images with their voices and insights about their lived experience (Wang & Burris,1997).

  2. SHOWED What do you See here? What’s really Happening? How does this relate to Our lives? Why does this situation exist? How could this image Educate others? What can we Do about it?

  3. This is a picture of an American flag in church with a holy water font next to it. Having the freedom as an American citizen to fully participate in my community and my church, and get the help I need for my mental illness helps me realize what America has done and is doing for people like me.

  4. I see many spots at an empty table. Who should have a voice in setting priorities for our community? How can we be sure that our unique values, traditions and roots are honored in the planning process? Coming together requires lots of listening, sharing, building trust and forging new relationships. Being engaged in a planning process so that our community is a place that people want to be healthy, stay and have a long term future is something I am hopeful for. Just like the people pictured here, each of us has something to contribute, despite our age and role in life. Rural Planning for Community Health
