What is Information Governance? • IG is to do with how NHS/Social Care organisations and individuals handle information • IG is a series of best practice guidelines and principles of the Law to be followed by NHS/Social Care organisations and individuals • IG is the core foundation for high qualityhealthcare using good quality information
Standard Contract Clauses Section 60 says that the provider should achieve level 2 on all requirements in the relevant IG toolkit. It then goes on to say that, we will request an action plan, where level 2 is not met by the time the service is due to commence.
What is the IG Toolkit • Online Self Assessment • Looking at Data Protection, Confidentiality & Information Security • Different toolkits for different types of organisation
What does this mean to you? • Existing NHS Provider – should already be completing, assessment of latest submission & approval of action plan if required • New NHS Provider – relevant toolkit completed online, assessment of this submission & approval of action plan if required
What does the Online Toolkit provide? • List of criteria to meet, broken down into sub sections • Guidance as to what is needed and why (i.e. legislation, good practice, DoH Guidance) • Links to websites for further information • Exampler Material • Standard Reports to produce improvement/action plans
