  2. Objectives • Represent numbers using variable • Use inverse relationships

  3. How can you apply the inverse relationship when solving equations?

  4. Materials • Color Counters • Linking Cubes • Balance Scale • Color Tiles • Blank Copy Paper • Markers • Scissors

  5. Differentiation • A: Review concept of equality using linking cubes and a balance scale, placing one color cubes on one side, and a different color on the other side. • B: Using the 5 column method, solve a series of fractions with un-like denominators. • C: Using the 5 column method, solve a series of fractions with un-like denominators. There will be mixed numbers, and fractions requiring re-grouping. • Students will be able to move from one group to another as work is completed.

  7. Work Period • John has some potatoes. He buys 6 more at the store. Now he has 20 potatoes. Write an equation to determine how many potatoes John had before he went to the store. He has a recipe that uses 5 potatoes to make a bowl of mashed potato. Write an equation to determine how many bowls of mashed potato he can make with 20 potatoes. • Write an equation following the example from the chart. Then, write an inverse operation you can use to solve for x. Finally, solve for x. • Raise your hand in order to receive the next step!!!
