  1. Home work- Week 7 By Jaslyn Berry

  2. Question 1 It took Suzie 3 minutes to walk around the outside perimeter of a basketball stadium, How many metre could this be? 280 meters I know this because I used a treadmill. I was walking at 6 metres per hour for 3 minutes and I had walked 280 meters.

  3. Question 3 Our principle wants a new flagpole for the school. Work out how high the pole should be, how big the flag should be and how much rope is needed to hoist the flag up. The flag pole would be 10 meters tall, the flag would be 1 meter, so the rope is 19 meters long. I figured this out by finding out the average height of a flagpole which is 10 meters then guessing the flag which is 1 meter. Then you times the length of the flag pole by two and minus the 1 meter from the flag.

  4. Question 4 All the students at my school stood side by side around the perimeter of the asphalt play area. How many students were there, and what is the total perimeter around the area? The perimeter of the asphalt play area is 22500 meters. I worked this out by finding out the average width of a primary school child, that was 45 centimetres. Then I multiplied the width of the children with the amount of children in the school which is approximately 500. The answer I got was 22500.

  5. Student are in training for the interschool cross- country, which is 5 km long. Last years’ winning time was 28 minutes design a shorter track for them to practice on at school. How long will the track be? How many laps do they need to complete to cover 5 km distance? What time should they be aiming for each lap? The track is 250 meters long, they will need to complete 20 laps to have done 5 km. and they time they are aiming for is 1.4 if they want to get the exact same time as last years champion. I worked this out by starting off with the track being 500 meters. I didn’t think that would be small enough since the average athletics track is 400 meters so I went down to 250 meters because I thought that it would be an easy number to work with. Then I figured out how many laps I would have to do to reach 5 km which was 20 laps. Then I divided 20 and 28 because 28 was last years champion time. That got me to 1.4 minutes per lap ( one minute and twenty four seconds) and that is the time runners should aim for to get the same score as the champion. Question 6

  6. Question 7 The new planet Zircon orbits around the sun in 84 days. Their days are only 9 hours long! Create a calendar showing how many months there could be; How many days in a month: How many days in a week. 4 months, 16 days in a month, 8 day weeks. I figured this out by saying there should be a month for every season. Then I divided 4 by the number of days in a year, 84, which gave me 16 so 16 was how many days there were in a month. Then I figured there could be 2 weeks in a month so they have 8 day weeks.
