  1. Nadine Labaki wins the Jury Award at Cannes 2018 Nadine Labaki's win as a female director is truly legendary in the aftermath of the # MeToo campaign and the gender inequity protest at Cannes 2018. The Lebanese Filmmaker's Historic Win makes her the first female Arab filmmaker to win the Cannes 2018 Grand Prix. Capernaum eventually went on to be nominated for the Palme D'or, the highest award. Capernaum is an Arabic movie about a destitute 12-year-old boy named Zain, a survivor of child violence , poverty and neglect. Born and left to his own devices without a diploma, he subsequently sues his parents for taking him to such unfortunate circumstances. The film primarily featured non-professional actors living in conditions much like the one seen in the film.

  2. Along with the coveted third place jury award, "Capernaum" also received a 15- minute standing ovation at its premiere in Cannes. "Labaki dedicated the award to her cast, saying," I really think of them, really. While her previous films,' Caramel' and 'Where Do We Go Now' have won her rave reviews in previous years in Cannes, in the history of Lebanese Cinema, Capernaum has etched her name forever.
