  1. “AHA” Engineering Maths Moments Year 7 - Number and Patterns

  2. Presentation Content • Prior Knowledge and students attitude to Algebra and number Patterns • Designing a unit of work that covers all areas • Assessment and results • Student Feed back

  3. What do students really know?

  4. Unit of Work Alternative unit plan – Algebra

  5. Creating Patterns • Working in groups year 7’s created different patterns • Over two lessons they explored the patterns followed by recording it in their books. • Some students were given the opportunity to graph the results to observe the linear relationship

  6. Including Text books and board notes!!

  7. Algebra Walk • Great activity before introducing graphing linear equations and forming tables. • Some students understood the concept of gradient and some even non linear equations • Year 7’s love being outside on “Friday Fun Day”

  8. Alternative Assessments • Project and presentation • Concept Maps • Test ( for comparison)

  9. CONCEPT MAPPING

  10. Test • When comparing the two year seven classes there was not a significant difference in the results. • Both of the classes have similar results, this is likely to be due to the revision test which is similar to the actual test. • But the class which engaged more in “hand on activities” performed better in concept mapping and the project assessment.

  11. Student Feed back
