  2. Scientific highlights WP3 : good progress on the 3D projects WP4 : workshop on Monday/Tuesday WP2 : geometry package development Tracking and alignment Bonn/IZM/CPPM • TransNational Access (WP5, WP6,WP7) : • All CERN TB units used (received more requests than possible…) • DESY : increase of users in 2013 & 2014 • Irradiations : used fraction as expected L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  3. Scientific highlights WP8 : Design of low energy test beam at CERN BTF@Frascati during the visit Layout of new irradiation facility at CERN Test of contactless Dosimeter at CERN (Vilnius) GIF++ Test setup for photodetector and plastic scintillators (Neutrinos detectors) L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  4. Scientific highlights Extensive used of pixels telescopes in beam test WP9 : Various calorimeter modules in beam tests + electronics developments Infrastructure for TPC already used at DESY GIF++ Tungsten AHCAL prototype 1st Si module assembly L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  5. Deliverables Y1 : All achieved, a few ones with 6 months delay Y2 : Three are not achieved : - First set of macro blocks (WP3) : 65nm CERN contract  7 months delay - DAQ / EDMS (WP8) 7 months delay - Pile-sup software activity (LHC running)  13 months delay Y3 : Now Y4 : Will be heavy load, any document which can be ready before is welcomed (AIDA scientific notes, reports….) Now L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  6. Milestones Now !!! Y1 : All achieved with minor delays Y2 : All achieved, some reports still expected even if no required L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  7. AIDA beam test needs • Request from SPSC to have a talk summarizing the AIDA expectations/needs about test beam at CERN and the implications for the project if not enough beam time available or major delay with CERN restart in 2015. My understanding : • Would like to have low energy beam available asap (design in task 8.2) but not contractual in AIDA (CERN funding) . Design almost finalized • Need to validate in beam neutrinos prototypes (TASD, MIND) and some ILC calorimeter prototypes to achieve deliverables • Others ? Presentation will be given by E. Noah Messom (Uni Geneva) Related question (MTR) : would an AIDA extension needed ? • Should review also which beam test @ DESY mandatory for deliverable achievements in 2014 L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  8. First Periodic Report • First Periodic Report was delivered with one month delay, mainly waiting EC acceptation of amendment on Grant Agreement (new AIDA beneficiary with Manchester, new associate with Univ Savoie…) • Most of the deliverables (11/12) & milestones (14/14) were achieved • Resource utilization : - almost averaged flat utilization, deviations easily explained. - Partners with no declared resource utilization in P1 : MTA KFKI : solved, Oxford : PL left, redefine activity STFC : still to be discussed…  Governing Board • Scientific and financial report has been validated • Payment/reimbursement from CERN now L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  9. Resource utilization in P1 • WP3 : under spending. Known, first year used to define 3D projects • WP4 : PMover spending. Used more than anticipated (18.5 PM) with technical students based at CERN . • WP7 : PMover spending, more local staff needed to handle irradiated samples. Subsistence for users reallocated to local staff. L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  10. EC contribution • Most of the partners will have already received 85 % of the EC contribution after P1. Last 10% (+ 5%) at end of project (M48) L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  11. Mid Term Review • Date and place decided by our new EC Project Officer (M. Menna) : Paris, April 25th • One expert appointed by PO : J. Virdee (Imperial college) • Presentation to ge given by WP leaders, agenda will be found at https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=242992 • Review of scientific activities only.  will report scientific goals, demonstrated milestones/deliverables have been achieved, justify delays/difficulties • From our side a few more issues to be discussed :  Identify already deliverables that might not been achieved in time  Should an AIDA extension be envisaged above 4 years, reasons ? (For instance need of test beam at CERN ? ) - Very few publications under AIDA : answer ? L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  12. Future of AIDA Positive discussion with CERN direction last summer L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  13. Results of IA consultation Physics : 53 answers with 34 duplicates  19 topics Ranking Only topics ranked A and B made public but without exact ranking L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  14. Results of IA consultation EUCARD2/TIARA AIDA ENSAR2 Typically, taken into account expected H2020 I3 budget, ~half of these topics will be funded Strategy to be eligible for 2015 first H2020 call will be discussed in dedicated session on Friday plenary meeting (Lobbying, organization…) L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  15. Publications / Notes Still our weakest spot ….. WP1 : 10 documents WP2 : 6 documents : 5 deliverables + 1 note WP3 : 8 documents : 3 deliverables + 5 conf proceedings WP4 : 1 document (milestone) WP5 : no document. Need of have references to publications of beam test supported by AIDA at DESY. Conference proceedings ? WP6 : 2 conf proceedings. Same as for DESY WP7 : No document. Same as DESY for references WP8 : 11 documents : 5 deliverables/milestones + 6 notes/conf WP9 : 7 documents : 1 milestone, 5 notes + 1 thesis 42 documents L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting

  16. Publications / Notes Still our weakest spot ….. 24. Conclusion AIDA now at middle of the project • ~about 85 % of EC contribution delivered (not used) but more and more results expected on the next 2 years • Should try to produce our deliverables in time or with minor delays. This is a necessary (not enough) step to be seriously considered for a new project in H2020  Expect continuous effort /help from each institute/partner • Second periodic report (P2) expected at M36, April 1st 2014. Will circulate instructions end 2013, very early 2014 • Preparing next H2020 IA call L. Serin CNRS/IN2P3 AIDA Second Annual Meeting
