Trade, conquest (military), migration, missionaries Why might some people be drawn to certain religions? Hope, enlightenment, emotional security, guiding force for behavior or morals, ????????

  3. What are some positive things about religion? Sets of morals/guidelines, hope during tough times, provide inner strength to believe in something greater than yourself What are some negative things about religion? War/fighting, persecute innocents, abuse of power in the name of religion (13th century Catholic leaders), divide countries/people What are the major religions of the world today? Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam

  12. Human beings are spiritual animals. Indeed, there is a case for arguing that Homo sapiens are also Homo religious. Men and Women started to worship gods as soon as they became recognizably human; they created religions at the same time they created works of art…These early faiths expressed the wonder and mystery that seem always to have been an essential component of the human experience of this beautiful yet terrifying world. Like art, religion has been an attempt to find meaning and value in life, despite the suffering that flesh is heir to. • People are naturally Religious • People have no need of Religion • People only believe in what they can see • People created religious beliefs out of fear. • They both express suffering human beings must endure • They first appeared around the same time in human history • They both place value on truth and beauty • They are both used to find life’s meaning.

  15. Hinduismis the predominant religion34 of the Indian subcontinent, and one of its indigenous religions. Hinduism includes Shaivism, Vaishnavism and Śrauta among numerous other traditions. It also includes historical groups, for example the Kapalikas. Among other practices and philosophies, Hinduism includes a wide spectrum of laws and prescriptions of "daily morality" based on karma, dharma, and societal norms. Hinduism is a conglomeration of distinct intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid common set of beliefs.

  16. Shiva is the Supreme God and has five important works: creator, preserver, destroyer, concealer, and revealer

Vishnu is the All-Pervading essence of all beings, the master of the past, present and future, one who supports, sustains and governs the Universe and originates and develops all elements within. Vishnu governs the aspect of preservation and sustenance of the universe, so he is called "Preserver of the universe".
