  3. Conflict • 1.a fight, battle, or struggle, especially a prolonged struggle; strife. • 2.controversy; quarrel: conflicts between parties. • 3.discord of action, feeling, or effect; antagonism or opposition, as of interests or principles:

War • 1. a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. • 2. a state or period of armed hostility or active military operations: The two nations were at war with each other. • 3. a contest carried on by force of arms, as in a series of battles or campaigns:

Terrorism • The term terrorism originated with the French Revolution with “le terreur,” although it has been used throughout history. • The only generally accepted characteristic of terrorism is that it involves violence or the threat of violence and instills fear in a population. • Terrorist groups can target politics, religion, race, ethnicity, etc. • Terrorists believe that violence is the only way to usher in change.

  6. Statistics on Terrorism • The number of terrorist attacks from 2006 to 2013 has decreased, there have been approximately 90,000 total terrorist attacks in this time period.
