Diploma Distribution: Diplomas WILL NOT be distributed on the day of Commencement Diplomas are ordered by the University Registrar’s Office and will be available for pick-up based upon your graduation date. If you would like your diploma mailed, you MUST submit a Commencement In-Absentia Form. Printable form available via the following link: http://registrar.rutgers.edu/NW/

  4. “Participation” in the Commencement Ceremony: Students must complete the following requirements by the end of the Spring 2017 semester to participate in the May 2017 Commencement Ceremony: • Complete a minimum of 120 credits; • Earn a cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher; • Complete all general education or core curriculum, writing intensive, and major/minor requirements; • Pre-certified by your advisor(s). This includes ALL majors/minors.

Commencement Regalia: • If you did not pre-order your cap and gown, it CAN be purchased in person at the Barnes & Noble College Store starting April 24, 2017 • Cost is approximately $90.00 for undergrads and includes cap, gown, tassel & hood • Be sure to check your hood at pick up: • Bachelor's of Science (BS): gold stripe • Bachelor’s of Arts (BA): white stripe • Bachelor’s of Fine Art (BFA): brown • Everyone will have a red stripe to represent RU All questions regarding regalia should be addressed to Wilda Silva wsilva@andromeda.rutgers.edu

BBQ & Grad Toast Date: Thursday, May 11th Time: 5-8pm Location: Golden Dome Tennis Court Scarlet & White Party Date: Friday, May 12th Time: 5-8pm Location: Clement’s Place 15 Washington Street

Directions/Parking @ Prudential Center Directions: • Located in downtown Newark, 2 blocks from Newark Penn Station. • The arena is accessible via New Jersey Transit, PATH and Amtrak. • Bounded by Edison Place to the north, Lafayette Street to the south, Mulberry Street to the east and Broad Street and City Hall to the west. Parking: • Parking at Rutgers University - Newark will be FREE for all graduates and their guests. • Parking on campus will be available at Deck I on University Avenue and Deck II on Washington Street. Guests will need to walk over to the Prudential Center from their respective parking lot. • Parking at/near the Prudential Center is NOT free. Graduates/guests will be responsible for their own parking fees off campus. • There will be signage, personnel, and security providing assistance For more information on parking near Prudential Center, please visit: http://www.prucenter.com/getting-here#/parking

  9. Prudential Center Admission Guests DO NOT need tickets in order to gain admission. Students are NOT limited to the number of guests that can be invited. All graduates will be given names cards prior to graduation. This will serve as your ticket into the arena. The School of Criminal Justice will begin distributing name cards during Salute Week.

  10. Name Cards & Announcements Graduates MUST have a NAME CARD for ADMISSION to the Prudential Center on Wed., May 17th. Graduates can pick-up Name Cards and Announcements on the following dates and times.

Special Notes for Guests • Students and guests can park in Rutgers University-Newark parking facilities for FREE • Parking at The Pru is available for a fee determined by the parking vendors • It is recommended that students/guests with disabilities & the elderly be dropped off in front of The Pru. • Guests seating is General Admission “first come-first serve” • Doors will open for guests between 8:15AM and 8:30AM

  12. Commencement Ceremony Instructions

  13. 2017 Commencement Date: Wednesday, May 17, 2017 **CHECK–IN TIME: 8:00AM SHARP** The Ceremony will begin promptly at 9 AM

  14. Dress and Decorum • Clothing should be in good taste and comfortable. Comfortable shoes should be worn. • Caps should be worn flat on the head (bring bobby pins to secure the cap) • Honor Cords and pins may be worn on the outside of the robe (Contact your Honor Society for information on cords or pins) • Leave your purse, cameras, and personal items with a family member or friend. Remember to turn your cell phone OFF! • All guests are asked to remain in their seats during the ceremony and should respect the rights of others to view the ceremony in its entirety • Alcoholic beverages are PROHIBITED! • DO NOT drink prior to the ceremony. University Police will confiscate alcoholic beverages and will remove inebriated persons from the processional and/or ceremony

  15. Arrival at The Pru STUDENTS

  16. Name Card and Check in Information Graduates must arrive wearing regalia. Graduates must present the Name Card for admittance to the Prudential Center. (TheName Card will serve as your ticket) Once you enter the Lafayette Tower located at the Southeast corner of the building at Mulberry and Lafayette you will proceed to the left. All graduates will follow the signs to the Arena floor. Keep your Name Card with you at ALL TIMES

Ceremony Instructions • Graduate seating will be by school only • You can be seated with friends from the same school • Graduates remain standing until the Chancellor instructs everyone to be seated • The Provost, Chancellor, Deans, Keynote Speaker, and Undergraduate Speaker will address graduates • Graduates will RISE and the dean will confer the degrees • Marshals will usher graduates row by row to the stage • Proceed on the stage with Name Card, name will be announced and honor status (if applicable) • Individual photos will be taken by professional photographers on stage and as you receive a diploma jacket • After all graduates have returned to their seats, the Chancellor will end the Commencement Ceremony • ALL GRADUTES MUST STAY FOR THE DURATION OF THE CEREMONY!
