Piccadilly Circus – the centre of the night life in the West End. In the centre at the top of the fountain stands Eros, the Greek god of love. Trafalgar Square – named after Admiral Nelson´s victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The statue of Lord Nelson stands on top of a high column. The square is a popular place for meetings and demonstrations.

  16. This is the most famous bridge of London. What do you know about it? Tower Bridge was built in Gothic style in 1894, named after two towers at each side. It is divided into halves, which can be raised to allow large ships to pass beneath. It takes only one minute to open the bridge. The metal parts are painted pale blue. There is a museum in the bridge, which opened in 1982. Can you identify this building? Globe Theatre – the original building opened in 1599, it was one of the most important theatres in London during the life of W.Shakespeare. It is in the centre of London on the south bank of the River Thames. It opened in 1997 and has performances from May to October /there isn´t a roof, so there are no performances in winter/. It is the same as the original Globe Theatre.
