  2. Montessori approach With careful observation Dr. Montessori developed her system of early education. Development of the whole child intellectually spiritually physically

  3. Four planes of development • 0-6 years – infancy • 0-3 years - unconscious absorbent mind • 3-6 years - conscious absorbent mind • 6-12 years - childhood • 12-18 years - adolescence • 18-24 years - transition to adult hood.

  4. Independence • Self reliance. • Sense of joy and achievement.

  5. Sensorial education • Develops intelligence. • Forms the structure of all the creative work.

  6. Concentration When something that answers the inner needs meet with the INNER URGE-SPONTANEOUS INTEREST is kindled, when this interest finds suitable conditions to work, SPONTANEOUS REPETION is the result, when the spontaneous repetition is done with interest, the natural result is CONCENTRATION.

  7. NORMALIZATION • Characteristics of a normalized child are: • self discipline • concentration • independence & • love for purposeful activity

  8. Freedom and discipline Freedom of choice & Freedom of time leads to INNER DISCIPLINE & PEACE

  9. IMAGINATION • Difference between imagination & fantasy • Imagination based on scientific facts leads to creativity. • Fantasy causes intellectual confusions.

  10. Concrete experiences Difficult concepts can be taught to 3-5 year old by providing Concrete experiences through Hands on approach

  11. Role of a teacher The role of a teacher in a Montessori class room is that of an observer, where the CHILDis ACTIVE. TEACHER is PASSIVE.
