  1. Is there any relation between food industry and obesity? Vida Shams Exit Seminar Professor Whittaker Research Paper Fall 2012

  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqQVll-MP3I&feature=related This movie Food INC was the reason that I choose this topic for my research

  3. Food, Inc. is a one-sided, biased film that the creators claim will "lift the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer." Unfortunately, Food, Inc. is counter-productive to the serious dialogue surrounding the critical topic of our nation’s food supply. Throughout this film, Food, Inc.: Demonizes American farmers and the agriculture system responsible for feeding over 300 million people in the United States. Presents an unrealistic view of how to feed a growing nation while ignoring the practical demands of the American consumer and the fundamental needs of consumers around the world. Food Industry

  4. Food prices—especially meat and poultry prices—would rise dramatically because of the increased costs of their inefficient production approaches. Vast amounts of land would need to be used to raise livestock and poultry in free range systems. The environment would suffer from open systems lacking environmental controls. Many fresh fruits and vegetables, which are seasonal in nature, would become unavailable in many areas of the country for much of the year. Imported foods like salamis from Italy, Danish hams and many other items would become "politically incorrect" because of the distances the products travel. Subscribing to the film's makers' vision for North American food production would mean many things, including:

  6. Eating healthy takes more time, more effort and more money than eating poorly does. • Unfortunately, most Americans; • like the foods that are quick to make and taste good. • addicted to foods that are loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

  7. There are great concerns about much of the meat that we eat as well. Today, we grow animals much larger than we used to, but it comes at a price.

  8. 5 Facts The Food Industry Does Not Anybody Know you’re probably aware that the food world can sometimes be a scary place.

  9. 1. Not all ingredients appear on labels.

  10. 2. Visible shelf space is paid advertising

  11. 3. Ingredients don’t have to be explained.

  12. 4. Processing foods greatly reduces nutritional value

  13. 5. Health claims are often unfounded

  14. Another dramatic change that has happened to our food supply in recent decades has been the rise of genetically modified crops. In 1996, only about 2% of all soybeans in the United States were genetically modified.  Today, about 90% of all soybeans in the United States are genetically modified.

  15.  if you drink large amounts of soda every day you are going to gain weight and you are likely to damage your health. Sadly, even though we know this, the average American still consumes over 600 12 ounce servings of soda per year. Is it any wonder that we have an obesity epidemic in America?

  16. It’s no secret that all of America: • Weighs 25 pounds more than it did just 30 years ago. • Increases in heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and many other adult conditions, even in children. • 10% of preschoolers, 25% of elementary school children, and 33% of teenagers have more weight. • The childhood obesity epidemic has disastrous consequences. . This is the reason:

  17. United States has a higher percentage of obese people than any other major industrialized nation does. All of this obesity helps to explain the dramatic rise that we have seen in diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes in recent years.  people living in the United States are three times more likely to have diabetes than people living in the United Kingdom? approximately 36% of all Americans are obese.

  18. It is not a mystery why this is happening. It is because of our unhealthy diets. The food we eat is killing us.
