  1. WELCOME TO BIOLOGY Please take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions: 1. Why are you in this class? 2. What would you like to get out of this class? 3. What do you know about Biology? 4. What does the word biology make you think of?

  2. Grew up in Diamond Bar and went to DBHS Has always had a love for science. Graduated from CSUF in 2006 Mrs. McCobb This is my 5th year teaching. I bowl Loves Animals. I have 2 dogs (Leila and Jasper) and 1 cat (Finn). I currently live in Anaheim. Go Angels!!!!! I’m 27 Has been married for 4 years.

  3. Classroom Expectations • Be on time and sit in your assigned seat • Bring your materials to class everyday • No eating or drinking in the classroom, except for water • No GUM CHEWING • School rules will be enforced • No ipods, cell phones, headphones, or other electronic devices. If I see them, they will be taken away and turned in to the student service center. • Unless teacher permission is given • Follow the dress code- no hoods or hats allowed

  4. Grading • Assignments must be turned in ON TIME to receive full credit. Late assignments will be docked one FULL grade. (If it was an A paper, it is now a B paper. If it was a C paper, it is now a D paper) • You will complete a work notebook for each chapter or unit of study. This will be checked on the day of the test for that chapter or unit. • Use pencil, black, or blue ink for ALL assignments. If I can’t read it, it doesn’t get a grade. • You will either have 3-4 assignments a week, or 1 large assignment that is given on Monday and due on Friday.

  5. If you are absent you can access your homework on my website, which you can find at • http://nhs.rowlandschools.org • Tests will include a variety of different types of questions (true/false, multiple choice, short answer, essay, fill in the blank, etc) • Tests may be retaken within 1 week after the first test IF the student attends a tutoring session before or after school that week • 35% of your grade is based on your homework/essays, 35% is based on tests, quizzes, and essays, and 25% will be based on reports and presentation, and 5% will be based on participation. • Participation= attendance, homework completion, # of tardies

  6. Classroom Policies • Use the restroom BEFORE coming to class. You will have limited trips available • If you are absent, please check online for your homework • Previous homework due the day you return • New homework due ONE DAY after your return

  7. Grading Scale 98-100= A+ 94-97= A 89-93=A- 87-88= B+ 83-86=B 79-82=B- 77-78=C+ 73-76=C 70-72=C- 68-69=D+ 64-67=D 60-63=D- 0-59=F I reserve the right to bump up a grade based on your participation or effort. If you turn in ALL of your homework on time and complete, I MAY decide to bump you up. Ex. You have a 79% in my class. If you have been awesome and have shown a lot of effort, I will bump you up to a B-.

Classroom Management • Positive Consequences: • An extra bathroom pass • 5 extra credit points for a homework assignment • 5 extra credit points on a test • A free assignment pass • Not for use on a project or test  • A GOOD call or note home • Negative Consequences: • Warning • Meeting with me • Lunch detention with me • not fun • After school detention in B.I.C. • Call home/meeting with your parents

Cheating Policy • First violation: • Zero on assignment • Teacher meets with parent • Cheating policy is signed by student and parent • Second violation: • Zero on assignment • Teacher and V.P. meet with parent and sign cheating policy • Student is placed on behavior contract, Saturday School, and essay written on cheating • Third violation: • Zero on assignment • Student sent to SSC with referral • V.P. meets with parent and student is suspended.
