THE PROBLEM (cont.) • Average family’s energy 11,200 pounds of air pollutants each year • 140 million cars drive 4 billion miles a day  200 million gallons of gas • About 1% of U.S. landfill space is full of disposable diapers • Homeowners vs. farmers • 50-100 species of plants/animals become extinct everyday

  6. Action Plan • University of Maryland- 2009’s Greenest Campus • Look for the EPA Energy Star symbol • Cut down on TV time • Turn down the thermostat • Buy new, efficient windows • Turn off the lights • Unplug your electronics • Wash your clothes in cold water
