  2. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass. Zechariah 9:9

  3. Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, says the Lord… therefore I will cast you out of my sight…Jeremiah 7:11, 15

  4. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me…The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.Psalm 51:10-11, 17

  5. When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. The more I called them, the more they went from me… Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, I took them up in my arms; but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of compassion, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them…

  6. How can I give you up, O Ephraim! How can I hand you over, O Israel! My heart recoils within me, my compassion grows warm and tender. I will not execute my fierce anger, I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come to destroy.Hosea 11:1-4, 8-9

  7. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master…so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he have mercy upon us.Psalm 123:2

  8. Did one not come out from you, who plotted evil against the Lord, and counseled villainy?Nahum 1:11

  10. He rained down upon them manna to eat, and gave them the grain of heaven. Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance…

  11. for he gave them what they craved.Psalm 78:24-25, 29 And they ate and were well filled,

  12. My eyes are spent with weeping; my soul is in tumult; my heart is poured out in grief because of the destruction of the daughter of my people…Lamentations 2:11

  13. For lo, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men band themselves against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord, for no fault of mine, they run and make ready.Psalm 59:3-4

  14. Thou who art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on wrong, why dost thou look on faithless men, and art silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?Habakkuk 1:13

  15. “Yet even now,” says the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love…Joel 2:12-13

  16. “Let us test him with insult and torture, that we may find out how gentle he is, and make trial of his forbearance.”Wisdom 2:19

  17. “Let us see if his words are true, and let us test what will happen at the end of his life; for if the righteous man is God’s son, he will help him, and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries… Let us condemn him to a shameful death, for, according to what he says, he will be protected…”

  18. …Thus they reasoned, but they were led astray, for their wickedness blinded them, and they did not know the secret purposes of God, noR hope for the wages of holiness…Wisdom 2:17-18, 20-22

  19. But I am like a deaf man, I do not hear, like a dumb man who does not open his mouth. Yea, I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes.Psalm 38:13-14

  20. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard…

  21. …I hid not my face from shame and spitting.Isaiah 50:6

  22. Against the Holy One of Israel!Isaiah 37:23 Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have your raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes?

  23. And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard. What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it?Isaiah 5:3-4

  24. O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me!Micah 6:3

  25. “In all the squares there shall be wailing; and in all the streets they shall say, ‘Alas! Alas!’

  26. They shall call the farmers to mourning and to wailing those who are skilled in lamentation, and in all vineyards there shall be wailing, for I will pass though the midst of you,” says the Lord.Amos 5:16-17

  27. Cry aloud to the Lord! O daughter of Zion! Let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!…

  28. Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord! Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.Lamentations 2:18-19

  29. Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

  30. For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground;

  31. He had no form or comeliness that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

  32. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not…

  33. Surely he has bourne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

  34. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities;

  35. upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed…

  36. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.Isaiah 53:1-7

  37. they have pierced my hands and feet– I can count all my bones– they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my raiment they cast lots.Psalm 22:15-18

  38. Behold, my servant shall prosper, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.Isaiah 52:13

  39. The Lord looks down from heaven, he sees all the sons of men; from where he sits enthroned he looks forth on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all, and observes all their deeds.Psalm 33:13-15

  40. Into thy hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.Psalm 31:5

  41. “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was brought upon me, which the Lord inflicted on the day of his fierce anger.”Lamentations 1:12

  42. And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of compassion and supplication, so that, when they look on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.Zechariah 12:10

  43. On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.Zechariah 13:1

  44. Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.Isaiah 40:1-2

  45. “Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is smitten with a great wound, with a very grievous blow.”Jeremiah 14:17

  46. He will swallow up death for ever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.Isaiah 25:8

  47. I am reckoned among those who go down to the Pit; I am a man who has no strength, like one forsaken among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave…Psalm 88:4-5

  48. Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered; let those who hate him flee before him!…But let the righteous be joyful; let them exult before God; let them be jubilant with Joy!…Our God is a God of salvation; and to God, the Lord, belongs escape from death.Psalm 68:1, 3, 20
