  2. Proclib Procedure Library • With definitions we determine what something means • With a proclib we determine how to do something • In a simple sense its defined “clickology” Building a Proclib

Why should you learn this • If you can write a proclib, then you have put a procedure into your own words and actions • You really know how to do something • You’ve put it into your “long term memory” • Can recall it whenever you need to • You can share it with others • You become a very valuable resource • You eliminate the annoyance and distraction of having to always demonstrate things • You’ll be more productive, efficient, happy, relaxed, and hopefully wealthy Building a Proclib

Requirements for a ProcLib Filename: Choose file name that reflects task Title: -- should inform the reader immediately as to the nature of the proclib Purpose: more detailed description of the proclib’s use Procedure: (in step by step outline format quickly indicate all steps necessary to perform the procedure) 1. ................. 2. ................. 3. Example Changing An Entity’s Labels on Map Purpose: Many times when you are making a map you wish to create labels on your map to refer to a particular set of entities (point, line or polygon), for example states in the USA. This is the way to determine the default names or id’s provided by your shape file and change from the default to another attribute if you so desire. Say you are changing from state name to population count. Procedure 1. Make sure that the theme (file) of data that you wish to work on is active in your TOC, then Right Click on the theme’s name. 2. From the opened menu click on PROPERTIES. 3. From the window that opens select the LABELS tab. In the middle of this window you will see a pick window with the title TEXT STRING LABEL FIELD. Click on this pick window and scroll to whichever attribute you wish to use for the map labels (for example you could change from State Name to Population or State FIPS code numbers). 4. Make sure that the Label features in this layer check box is checked to make labels visible. 5. Click OK 6. If you want to turn off the labels you can right click on the Theme and this time click on LABEL FEATURES.
