  4. Where • El Alcazar de Segovia is located in the city of Segovia in the province of Segovia in Spain

  5. When • El Alcazar de Segovia was first built in the 11th century. • In 1882 it was rebuilt due to a fire

  6. Why it’s important • This castle is important because it housed many Spanish famous kings. • On December 12th news of King Henry IV’s death reached the castle and Queen Isabella I of Castile took refuge in El Alcazar de Segovia. She was crowned Queen of Castile and Leon a day later • El Alcazar de Segovia was also a prison for 200 years.

  7. How it was rebuilt • The interior of El Alcazar de Segovia and was rebuilt in 1882 because of a fire. Old sketches were used as a guide to try and make the interior as close to the original as possible.

  8. Past • El Alcazar was originally an Arab fort but a small amount that that remains. • In 1474 Queen Isabel became the queen of Castile and Carlos III built the Royal Artillery College. • King Phillip II made his capital • in Madrid but made changes to El Alcazar, • replacing the roofing like ones he saw in Belguim.

  9. Present • Now El Alcazar is a very popular site in Spain. It houses works of art and rooms representing Spanish kings and queens over the country’s history.

  10. How it shapes life in Spain today • It’s a historical and tourist attraction that brings thousands of people to the area, adding to Spain’s economy.
