OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Cheryl Paglione Associate Director of Human Resources – Pensions, Benefits and HR Systems • Pensions, Benefits and HR Systems strategic planning and development. • Advise and assist the Executive Director on issues related to Pensions, Benefits, systems and records. • Oversee design, development, administration and communication of all University of Windsor Pension and Benefit programs. • Provide direction and support of Pension Plan governance, compliance, legislative filings and statistical reporting. • Provide retirement counseling, annual updates to Pension Indexing, Valuations, Group Insurance renewals.

OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Tom Puskas Manager of Pensions, Benefits and HR Systems • Pensions, Benefits and HR Systems operational activities • Oversee daily departmental operations • Manage the administration and communication of the University benefit programs provided to faculty, employees and retirees. • Ensure overall integrity of HR systems and records. • Manage LTD, Life, and Health/Dental programs • Provide support to the ADHR on Pension and Benefit functions, valuations, special projects, filings.

OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Barb Beaulieu - Benefits, Records & Pension Administrator – extension 2049 • Accountable for day to day administration of all benefit and retirement programs for all union and administration employee groups. • Responsible for record keeping and data entry to the HRIS system for all personal and salary information, transfers, work permits, new hires, rehires, layoffs, absenteeism, leaves, in support of Payroll processing deadlines for the bi weekly payroll. • Responsible for Green Shield benefit enrolments and changes to coverage status, dependant information, premium tables. • Provide individual benefit counseling for new employees. • Tracks eligibility for pension, long term disability and welfare programs

OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Melissa Simas Benefits, Records & Pension Administrator – extension 2090 • Accountable for the day to day administration of all benefit and retirement programs for all faculty related groups. • Responsible for record keeping and data entry to the HRIS system for all personal and salary information, transfers, work permits, new hires, rehires, layoffs, absenteeism, leaves, in support of Payroll processing deadlines for the semi monthly payroll. • Responsible for Green Shield benefit enrolments and changes to coverage status, dependant information, premium tables. • Provide individual benefit counseling for new faculty members. • Tracks eligibility for pension, long term disability and welfare programs

OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Joyce Yu HR Systems Co-Ordinator – extension 2053 - Maintains the integrity and accuracy of the HR Control, Compensation & Benefits Tables and the position inventory (schedules, accounts & reporting structure) within the HR/Payroll system for all employee groups. • Prepares annual Statistics Canada report covering all full-time academic staff • Supports the salary adjustment process for Faculty. • Calculates and processes salary increases for union & non-union staff. • Develops programs to generate reports from the HR/Payroll system database as required by various University departments and external bodies.

OFFICE OF PENSIONS & BENEFITS, and HR Systems Staff and Roles • Monika Burgess Receptionist / Secretary – extension 2047 • Provides secretarial assistance to departmental managers. • Responsible for record keeping and data entry to the HRIS system for all personal and salary information, transfers, leaves, in support of Payroll processing deadlines for the GA / TA and Student payrolls. • Receptionist duties, answering general queries, providing support to students, Faculty and other employees. • Attendance tracking, prepares monthly Hires, Terminations and Staffing changes report for distribution to numerous University departments

Pension Plans - Highlights Employee Pension Plan – Defined Benefit • Compulsory for all full time staff, voluntary for part time employees, CUPE 1001 employees have a separate plan. • Normal retirement – first of month following age 65 • Early retirement after age 55 with reductions • 6% reduction for each year 55 to 60 • 4% reduction for each year 60 to 65 • After retirement annual indexing provisions as stated in the Pension Plan text.

Pension Plans - Highlights Employee Pension Plan – Defined Benefit • Current Employee Contribution rate is 6% on the first $3,500 of earnings, 4.2% on the next $38,600 and 6% thereafter. • Special entrance rules for part time employees. • Pensionable earnings includes regular salary or wages, overtime, shift and weekend premium, vacation pay but does not include stipends for sessional instruction. • Plan year runs July 1st to June 30th of each year. Pension statements are provided once each year. • Pension Information can be viewed online through the Human Resources website www.uwindsor.ca/hr . Information on the Open Pension meeting is also available on our website.

  11. Benefit Plans - Highlights • We have 8 separate benefit classes with varying eligibility dates, benefit coverage’s, premiums, maximums and limits specific to each group. We also have 2 retiree groups which we administer. Benefit booklets can be obtained by contacting our office. • Providers are: • Green Shield – health/dental/out of province • Sun Life – life insurance programs • Great West Life – Long term disability • Warren Shepell – Employee Assistance Program • CHUBB – Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefits Information can be viewed online through the Human Resources website www.uwindsor.ca/hr . Be sure to chose your applicable employee group.

  13. Green Shield of Canada Green Shield Canada has launched and implemented a new Subscriber Online Service. This new website will answer those questions most often asked and give online access to the following: • Direct Deposit of claims reimbursements to a personal bank account; • EOB (Explanation of Benefits) Information; • Instant access to personal claims information; • Claims payment history; • And much more Their website address is : www.greenshield.ca

  15. General Reminders Pension Plans are highly regulated and require strict adherence to plan design. Failure to comply with plan terms exposes the University to fines, penalties and plan revocation. They must be administered in a fair, equitable and consistent manner for the benefit of all members. • For this reason we are here to provide you with pension information or to help resolve any pension issues or concerns that may arise.

General Reminders The University of Windsor provides and supports multiple health and welfare programs applicable to each of the various faculty, union and other employee group collective agreements. Therefore eligibility and entitlement rules may vary by these classes. • We are here to provide you with benefit information and to address any benefit issues or concerns that may arise.

How can you assist us? • Keep us advised of any changes to your personal data, such as address, bank account or beneficiary changes, new dependants, changes to marital status, leaves, accidents or illnesses on a timely basis. • Forward all forms or requests for information promptly to ensure accurate updates to your payroll, pension or benefit entitlements. • We are here to provide information and counseling if required. • Contact us anytime you have questions or concerns.
