E?ects of Defec?ve Spinning Cans on the Performance of Spinning Machinery E?ects of Sliver Handling On Qual? of Sliver and Yarn 5 Safe? Hazards in Spinning Industry and How to Prevent Them July 9, 2024 Himanshu Fogla Sliver Can ♦ ♦ ♦ Material handling plays a pivotal role in the spinning industry, influencing yarn qual? significantly across various stages from processing to storage. Over here, we have delved into the cr?cal e?ects of sliver handling on sliver and yarn, highligh?ng key factors that impact the final product. E?ect of Spring Load and Storage Time on U% One of the crucial aspects a?ec?ng yarn qual? is the spring load of sliver cans and the dura?on of storage. Yarn unevenness (U%) tends to increase when sliver cans have lower spring loads and are stored for longer periods. This phenomenon occurs due to the heightened probabil? of fiber leakage between adjacent sliver coils. As sliver remains stored, the struc?ral integr? weakens, leading to a greater propens? for fibers to escape from their coils during subsequent processing stages like dra?ing over speed frame and ring frame. Consequently, this results in a higher U% in the final yarn, impac?ng its uniform? and overall qual?.
E?ect of Spring Load and Coil Pos?on on Strength CV% The strength coe?cient of varia?on (CV%) in yarn is significantly influenced by the spring load of sliver cans and the pos?on of the sliver coils within them. Older sliver cans with reduced spring s??ness o?en exhibit higher CV% in strength. This is primarily due to the deforma?on and stretching of sliver fibers within the can. During storage and handling, especially with reduced spring s??ness, the bo?om sliver coils experience compression and elonga?on, crea?ng inconsistencies in the yarn’s strength. These varia?ons are exacerbated during subsequent processing stages, contribu?ng to a higher CV% in the strength of the final yarn product. E?ect of Storage Time and Coil Pos?on on Thin Places Extended storage ?mes of sliver cans also impact yarn qual?, par?cularly in terms of introducing thin places. Thin places in yarn occur when there are irregular?es in sliver struc?re, o?en caused by sliver spli?ing and stretching during processing stages such as dra?ing at the speed frame. The bo?om sliver coils, having been subjected to prolonged storage, are more prone to s?cking together due to reduced inter-fiber fric?on. This increased contact area leads to greater sliver deforma?on and, consequently, a higher incidence of thin places in the final yarn. EFFECT OF COIL POSITION AND STORAGE TIME ON U% Similar to strength CV%, yarn unevenness (U%) is a?ected by the pos?on of sliver coils within the can and the dura?on of storage. At higher storage ?mes, par?cularly with bo?om sliver coils, compression forces from the weight of upper layers and the spring mechanism can fla?en the sliver. This fla?ening process, coupled with stretching during subsequent processing, contributes to an elevated U% in the yarn. The uneven distribu?on of sliver thickness and struc?re directly correlates with the final yarn’s unevenness, impac?ng its visual appeal and performance characteris?cs. The Final Word Me?culous handling of sliver throughout the manufac?ring process is crucial for ensuring op?mal yarn qual?. From maintaining appropriate spring loads in sliver cans to minimizing storage ?mes, every step influences the final product’s characteris?cs. Manufac?rers must prior?ze e?cient material handling
prac?ces to m?gate the detrimental e?ects discussed, thereby enhancing overall yarn consistency and strength.
