Requirements to a modern interior and exterior design of rail cars • to transfer the operator’s identity to the passengers – make it distinctive • to keep the typical character of the manufacturer’s product family • to transfer the operator’s business idea to the passengers • to realize the operator’s demanded level of comfort for the passengers • to be functional – function is more important than a nice view • to fulfil all requirements of safety, environment etc. according to the law/standards • not to be oriented on fashion trend, because of the long life of the product • to be payable

Approach of Stadler Rail to come to successful design • using the support of professional design offices based on long term cooperation • Stadler makes different proposals in high quality animation– the customer decides • if the customer uses it’s own design team, than Stadler cooperates with them • the choice of the right design is an iterative process with minimum 4-5 iterations • the choice of colours (exterior and interior) and materials (seats, covers inside) will be finally done on original examples of materials and colours • manufactured mock-ups support the correct imagination of the future design

Conclusion • Stadler’s trains will always be customized in respect of technics and design • Cultural features can and will be considered • When the customer’s conception foresees comfort like in an airport lounge, it can be realized • Design of rail car always shall be long time oriented and shall not follow fashion trends • Retro or High tech – both is possible, when the business conception of the operator requires one of them, but please think about long time orientation • Reliable technics, modern design and good comfort are the most important features for the passenger and are success factors for the operators
