  3. 2 Timothy 1:13-18 13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day—and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus.

  6. Stand strong on solid ground (sound words) Verse 13 • THERE IS A SYSTEM OF TRUTH DEPOSITED IN THE HANDS OF THE CHURCH. • 1. It is a commanded duty to keep it safe. • 2. It is for the Church's edification, safety, and stability. • 3. It is for the glory of God. • 4. We cannot do it except in the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

  7. I believe when we catch a vision of how God feels about us we will be drawn to the Bible to find out all we can. • The first love endures if we nurture it. • What’s holding you back? • Practical points… • Visual, Audio, Kinaesthetic • Social vs Isolated

  8. What is Sound Doctrine? • Post, Pre, A -millenialist? • Spiritual Gifts • Miracles • Tithing • Alcohol • Baptism • Speaking in tongues • ???????

  9. 1 Corinthians 1:23 • Preach Christ Crucified! • My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. • I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name. • On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, • JESUS IS ENOUGH FOR ME!

Stand strong in the right attitude (faith and love) Verse 13 • Discipling is built on relationship. • People don’t care what you know until they know that you care. • Faith believes the Divine doctrines. Love puts them all into practice. • Faith lays hold of Jesus Christ, and obtains that love by which every word is cheerfully and effectually obeyed.

Stand strong in Holy Spirit Power Verse 14 • John 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. • 1 Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. • The scarecrow.

It is the Spirit that gives us the words and power to bring others to Jesus and it’s the Spirit that keeps them there and teaches them more. • 1Co 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. • Do we treasure the treasure we’ve been given? The Holy Spirit can keep us aflame.

  13. We are just natural, ordinary people, but the power and leading of the Holy Spirit puts the extra on our ordinary and the super on our natural!

  14. Stand strong together.Verse 15-18 • Disciplingrequires courage. • Onesiphorus had courage and was not ashamed or afraid of Paul’s chains. • It would have been dangerous for him to meet with Paul. • Paul had great courage. • Will you be an encourager or a discourager? To others… to yourself!

  15. Conclusion • Solid ground in scripture. • Solid stance from a loving attitude. • Power to stand and fight from the Holy Spirit. • Christian Brothers and Sisters who have your back. • Together we stand on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness!
