  2. AACOGREGION AACOG Region AACOG serves the Alamo Area State Planning Region 18 – 13 Counties and 56 cities The AACOG 13 county region covers 12,585 square miles. The AACOG 13 county region population is approximately 2.5 million.

  3. AACOG and CENSUS 2020 AACOG has been working with U.S. Census Bureau since Spring 2018 to prepare for the 2020 Census For Image Only

  4. LUCA Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) – only opportunity to review and comment on Census Bureau’s residential address list for jurisdiction prior to 2020 Census

  5. LUCA AACOG served as coordinator for region Informed Board of Directors & member governments of LUCA program Sponsored Census workshop for region Four of our 13 counties designated AACOG to conduct the LUCA on their behalf.  AACOG employee & student intern completed project at no cost to member governments. 

  6. COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEES Complete Count Committees (CCC) -provide vehicle for coordinating & nurturing cooperative efforts between state, local governments, communities, & Census Bureau CCCs help Census Bureau get complete count in 2020 through partnerships with local governments and community organizations.

  7. COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEES Facilitated initial meetings of San Antonio & Bexar County CCC Provided information on CCCs to rural counties & GBCCC (19 suburban cities) Facilitated Census Bureau staff contacting rural counties Chose not to create CCC at the COG level due to expanse of region & many local and county governments (69 cities, 13 counties) Facilitated Census Bureau to convey the message to member govts Census Bureau made presentation to AACOG Board of Directors.

Participant Statistical Areas Program Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) - offers local governments & regional planning organizations the opportunity to review & modify selected statistical boundaries Census Bureau uses to count people so Census Bureau can provide most relevant, useful data possible

Participant Statistical Areas Program AACOG is coordinator for region Will assist with counties & communities not having staff or resources to participate in program AACOG updated Board of Directors during Board meetings & Area Judges meeting; Shared a NADO video on PSAP Provided county specific maps on current census tracts &recommended splits. Held workshop in Fall 2018 with Census Bureau PSAP staff to provide information on PSAP to member governments & recruit participants to review statistical boundaries due out in 2019 Holding workshop with PSAP staff on February 15 for region on program &Geographic Update partnership Software (GUPS) for participants to review the boundaries & generate final 2020 PSAP plan for region Workshop will be live-streamed on AACOG’s website

  10. NEXT STEPS AACOG continues to provide information from Census Bureau on 2020 Census & programs to member governments Post information on AACOG website
