  2. Summary • Beowulf kills Grendel's mother then cuts off Grendel's head coming back to the lake. The lake was calm and had Grendel's arm.   3. Elements of the epic hero: beowulf • “But so massive that no ordinary man could lift its carved and decorated length. He drew it from its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt, and lifted it high over his head.” Lines 516-520 • This shows that beowulf is not just an ordinary human being. That he is something more epic. It explains that a normal human being couldn’t lift this sword off its chains and Beowulf did it with ease. • Thomas Patrick

  5. Figures of speech • “Melted, blood-soaked, dripping down like water, disappearing like ice…” • This quote is describing how the sword is boiling in the monsters blood. How it dissolves like ice does when ice is melted.   7. Christian influence • There was some chritsian influence in this section. When Beowulf came out of the lake they thank their gods for the help. It is mainly about fighting with Grendel’s mother and coming back and celebrating. • Ben Babcock

  10. Purpose of our passage • This passage was the killing of Grendel’s mother. Beowulf goes and kills the m onsterand returns to the Geats with the head of Grendel. They celebrate in their mead hall with alcohol and singing. Shows that Beowulf is an epic hero and contributes to this is an epic poem.

He drew it • From its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt, • And desperate, lifted it high over his head • And struck with all the strength he had left.” • This shows that Beowulf was mighty, extremely strong, and a brutal warrior.
