  1. Let’s help each other out

  2. Sample post What’s there to do on a Saturday night when you’re not feeling like going out to the bars or partying at the fraternity? Sometimes it feels nice to take a step back from college life and relax on the weekend, but dinner and a movie can only do so much after a while and then what? It’s time to create your own entertainment, so here are a few suggestions; 1.       Go for a walk Exploring campus at night is a new adventure all its own. For one you will probably be one of the only people walking around. Also, campus is illuminated in whole new light and feels like a whole new place. 2.       Change your environment Hang out somewhere new, change the scenery.  Places on campus that are good for a chill night include The Egyptian Hooka Lounge, Greyhouse Coffee, and Boiler Market. 3.       People Watch Especially on a Saturday night the passing pedestrians get more and more ridiculous as the night endures. Entertainment will not fail you as the conversations become increasingly more incoherent. So give yourself a break from the night life and enjoy the simpler pleasures campus has to offer.

  3. Sample post To those of you who have been staying up-to-date on the campus news, you most likely read the Purdue Exponent that is issued daily. Some of you careful readers out there may have noticed that a new column has been added to the Exponent this week, and it’s about the Greek System. This article written by columnist, Silvia Son, is used to inform campus more about the positive aspects of the Greek System. There has been a lot of bad coverage lately surrounding the Greek System as a whole. Her first article was published this past Tuesday, and received a lot of negative letters to the editor the following day.  Exponent readers complained that this article was unnecessary. A lot of complainers expressed they didn't care about the Greek System since they weren't involved in it. These letters to the editor turned pretty nasty. What do you think, should this article continue to be a part of the Exponent? Or should it be cut off before more negative feedback occurs?

  4. Sample post • 1.   Korean restaurants • ~ Kibu: It is located at 111 South River Rd in West Lafayette. It is a walking distance from campus. They have both Korean and Japanese food. It is not very expensive to eat. They open 7 days a week so it is really convenient. But, you have to serve your own silverware and a soup if you want to have. Also, you will have to bring the dishes to the tray once you are done eating. Otherwise, you will have to leave a tip so that server will clean the table. It is fun to read the comments on post-it in front of the bathroom.

  5. Struggling with interviews • Q:  How did you get started out djing at the Neon Cactus? • A:  Their Saturday night dj at the time was getting ready to graduate and move so they were looking for a replacement that would carry on what he was doing. • Q:  What kinds of music do you play there? • A:  I play everything from Top 40, mashups, classic rock, club bangers, to electronic dance music (everything from electro, house, and now even a little dubstep).  Dubstep is really becoming a big force in the music industry- Brittany Spears even has a new song with dubstep in it. • Q:  How do you think they could improve the night? • A:  They need to evolve with the music and it will attract more people because people want to hear new music.  That’s the biggest thing. Likewise they really need to change the name and bring it more up to date.  I don't see why they don't just call it "the Neon."  I mean, the line-dancing thing is way out-dated. • Q:  What is your response to the interview I recently conducted about the Neon Cactus? • A:  There is such a diverse crowd on Saturdays.  You have hip hop heads and house heads as well as folks that just want to hear the classics.  People should appreciate all different types of music.  I guess my response is that DJing is one of the hardest jobs ever, especially for a crowd as diverse as the one at Neon Cactus on Saturday nights.

  6. Another day another blizzard. With the inability to pry myself from my apartment, I decided to call my sister to catch up on life. Amongst our conversation I wondered what she would have done when she was a Purdue student on a snow day. Jackie graduated in 2005 with a degree in finance. She is now working for Accenture in Chicago, IL as a financial analyst. Having her college days beyond her I decided to ask what her traditions were as a student, and here is what I found. • Q. What was your favorite tradition as a Purdue student? • A: My favorite memories as a student were the weekends at Harry's. All of my good friends met there on the weekends and we closed it down many weekends. I also really liked breakfast club. The things people do and see you will never forget when your there. Fountain runs also rank pretty high up there. • Q. What were some of your best memories at Purdue • A. Some of the best times I had a Purdue were when my close friends and I went to dinner at different places on campus each week. We really enjoyed experiencing new restaurant together. • Q. What were some of the places on campus that you enjoyed the most? • A. My friends and I went to Boiler Market a lot to start off the night. Other times we went to Jakes or Stack's when it was still on campus. • I will be bringing you more interviews with Alums from further decades to see how traditions change either changed or stayed the same throughout the years. Enjoy!

  7. We have all heard of the FourLoko debate. This drink combines caffeine and alcohol equivalent of almost three beers in one can. Mixing energy drinks and alcohol is already dangerous, but the amount in one can is alarming people. I personally have not tried FourLoko but I know people that have. I have only heard bad stories from this drink. This is partly the reason why I have never tried it. The main problem with the drink is that people are drinking several and not realizing how much alcohol and energy content is in each can. Several people have been sent to the hospital or died from allegedly consuming this drink. The FourLoko drink has been banned in several states across the country but has been promised to return without the caffeine added.  So before you try a drink, make sure you do the research. Have you tried FourLoko?
