  3. Middle School Day9:20 – 3:50 • Grade Level Teams • Advisory/Tutorial • Enrichments / RTI – Reading and Math • Advanced – Math, Science and L.A. • Core Content Classes • Lunch

  4. A typical day

  5. Advisory • Purpose: ensure success for all students, both academically and socially • Meets daily in September then twice weekly • First point of contact for information or to set up a meeting • Student Led Conferences with Advisor

  6. Tutorials • Purpose: Provide an opportunity within the day to re-teach and support students’ learning. • Meets three days per week for about three weeks • Students are assigned based upon need • Students may select support • Open tutorial – for students not needing the support • Wood working, art, volleyball games etc.

  7. Enrichments • Music: Band, Orchestra, Choir • Applied Technology • Art • Physical Education and Health • Academic Enrichments: Reading, Writing, Math, and Science

  9. Core Classes • Four Cores: Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies • Advanced Classes in most subject areas • Selection Process : Data Driven Selection • Student/Parent Request • May have honors in one area or all areas

  12. Lunch • Lots of food options • Cost: $3.00 per lunch • Three lunch periods • Activities: Indoor and outdoor • Also hot breakfast is available for $1.75

  15. How to Get Help • Talk to your classroom teacher • Meet with the advisor • Call the counselor • Involve the administrators • Use family access • Check teacher website • Track progress reports

  16. Family Access • Update Your Information at Your Current School: • Address • Phone • Email • Emergency Contacts • Your email in Skyward will generate a contact to get your Skyward login and password.

Sports • Everybody plays! • Seasons: • Fall boys’ soccer & girls’ volleyball • Winter I co-ed wrestling & girls’ basketball • Winter II girls’ soccer & boys basketball • Spring co-ed Track • Requirements: • GPA 2.0 or better • Honor Level One or Two • Registration packet to include physical • Fee ($60.00 per year for all sports)

  21. Student Safety • NMS has a comprehensive emergency response plan • Regular drills and practice • School safety committee which meets throughout the school year • Check in procedure for visitors • We know our students: advisory, conferencing and counselors • We teach internet safety
