  3. DEFORESTATION Deforestation is the clearance of forests by logging and/or burning (popularly known as slash and burn).

  4. FRAGMENTATION Fragmentation is the breaking up of large and continuous ecosystems, communities, and habitats into smaller areas surrounded by human land use.

  11. What Can You Do? • Don't pick the flowers of noxious weeds and take them home. • When using pack animals, carry only feed that is certified weed free. • Remove weed seeds from pack animals. • Don't pick and transport wild flowers that you can't identify. • Do not camp in weed infested areas.

  19. Some things for students to do Even though you will perspire if the temperature is high, what happens to your perspiration when the dew point depression is low? Write a short paragraph describing how you would begin to educate the people in your community about invasive plants. Design a super alien. Instruct each pair of students to design a super alien plant that can invade a forested area. The new plant must have at least five adaptations that allow it to outcompete native plants. Students should brainstorm new super plants, draw pictures of them, label the adaptations, and share their illustrations with the class.
