It can be a real pain trying to make sure that our pets are well cared for when we go on vacation, and for some, they never go away simply because they feel they don’t have any viable options for pet care in their absence. Even if you are only taking a weekend break, your pet still needs to be taken care of, and here are the 4 main options that pet owners will be faced with when they go on vacation without their pets: • Hire a professional pet sitter: Keeping your pets at home when you’re away on vacation is an option that is proving increasingly popular, as more and more pet owners choose not to place their animals into temporary care facilities.
However, while some pet sitters will happily move into your place to look after your pets, some will require that your pets are moved to their home. This often means that not only with your pet have human company while you’re away, but they may even have some fellow furry company, too, since pet sitters often have a few pets staying with them already. • Hire a house sitter: Many professional house sitters are equally as happy to take care of your pets while you’re away, as well as your home, and this way your beloved pets get to remain in their familiar environment and be under constant supervision with human attention guaranteed.
Naturally you will ned to be comfortable with the person being in your home and responsible for the wellbeing of your beloved pet(s), but if the individual comes with recommendations and is proven to be a professional, then it could prove the most financially viable option for you, and the most stress-free option for your pets. • Ask friends, family or neighbours to take care of them: If you have trustworthy family members or neighbours that you know you can rely on to take care of your pets while you’re away, then this is perhaps the best option all round. They will presumably be familiar with your pets, and may even give them better, more personal care than a paid professional might.
Leave your pets at a boarding facility: There are plenty of horror stories about kennels and boarding facilities where pets are not treated well, but with adequate research and recommendations from others who have boarded their pets at such a facility while on vacation, you should be able to find a trustworthy establishment that will care for all your dogs needs in your absence. This may, however, be the most expensive option, and your dog may be exposed to other pets with contagious illnesses such as kennel cough. They will not get personal care either, since the facility will have many pets staying there, but if you have exhausted all other options, then this is at least a place where in theory, your pet will be safe in your absence.
Leaving your pets behind while you go on vacation can be tough, but keep in mind that it will not be forever (although your pet doesn’t know that!) and that they will quickly forgive you for their perceived abandonment when you return!
