Photografs of the lake Smreka The surface mine on which lies the artificial lake of Smreka is situated southwest of Vares at a distance of approximately 1 km and can be accessed from several local roads. The lake is located 50 km from Sarajevo and 80 km from Zenica and is linked with both of these cities via travel and rail communications. The lake was formed after the closure of the mine Smreka in 1992 which resulted in the accumulation of water that created the lake. The lake area formed in the opencast mine and on the 12.11.1996 the surface area of the lake was 125000m2, with a maximum length of 610 m, a width of 320 meters and a depth of 107.05 m. The lowest elevation point of the lake is 675.5m, the highest 782.1m altitude. The maximum depth of the lake currently measures at approx. 110m.

  3. EXAMPLES OF ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES The architecture should reflect contemporary trends in construction, but using local indigenous materials such as wood and stone and respecting traditional architecture of Vareš and this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  4. Examples of possible sports facilities The entire area should be enriched with courts for standard recreational sports such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, etc. In addition, the project forsees for the creation ofcompetition and adrenalin sports such as quadbiking, rock climbing, paintball, cross country, mountain biking, rowing, swimming, fishing, etc.The above-mentioned rich and quality content should become a kind of magnet for visitors of different needs and interests, Smreka should emerge as a regional sports and recreation center.

  5. INTERPRETATION OF THE CONCEPT The location, coastal and mainland, as well as the wider area around the '' Smreka'‘ lake should form a single urban unit that through the project would be transformed and enriched with varied recreational, entertaining, educational and other content. AMOUNT OF INVESTMENT The project should be split into three phases: Phase I preliminary design - 20,000 KM Phase II main project - 50,000 KM Phase III construction work - land reclamation and construction works - the height of the investment depends on the conceptual design and its estimate is around 15 million Euros.
