  1. Combine your leads for greater variety… Quotes, sounds, setting, and clues

  2. Combine some for more depth… • I could smell the sweet juice of the meat as it was coming my way. We were all grubbing for position as the steam off the mashed potatoes entered my way. “Hmmm, I love sweet potatoes!” I shouted with excitement. Across the table the cringe on my sister’s face gave it all away, she must have had asparagus in front her. Neither of us like it, although the rest of the food is fantastic at Thanksgiving.

  3. Combine some more… • Creek, Shhhheettt, thud, thud. “Well, it looks like it’s going to be a snow day,” my mom stated as she entered my room and opened the blinds. Suddenly, my body flung out of bed as if it were shocked. I shouted, “Snow Day? Yes!” Out the window, my yard looked like it was covered in foam, with soft speckles of ice falling down. Although winter can be chilly, snow days are the greatest!

  4. Combine some more… • Thud! Thud! Uh! Slap! Eager kids waiting in line patiently for their turn. The rubber red ball bouncing back and fourth as bodies battle to get each other out. “Out!” shouted one. The other argued back, “Nah ah…it was on the line!” I observe the two battle as others chime in. Although the arguments get old after a while, four square is still the best game to play at recess.

  5. Combine for leads… • “Watch out for the dog!” shouted a voice over my shoulder. Arf! Arf! Arf, I heard as it was getting louder and louder. I turn around but it was too late. Next thing I knew, my legs were in the air, and my elbows greeted hard concrete with a sudden fall. “Ouch!” I shouted and began to cry in pain. Even though I am fine now, one of the most painful things was when I broke my arm.

  6. Combine some more leads • He may not wear a strawberry colored cape, or a tight suit, or have any gizmos. He’s not even on television or rich. Heavy footsteps are coming near and I anticipate his arrival. I cuddle tightly and a smirk lifts the corners of my lips. “Good night son, I love you,” he says as I go to sleep. There are many superheroes in the world, however my heroic dad is the greatest superhero to me.

  7. Combine some more! • This was it, the moment I have been waiting for. “Shoot it! Shoot it!” yelled the coach. I looked around and saw my parents, who were acting as if they were on fire. My dad’s deep voice echoed, “Shoot it now!”. It took a while for me to realize, but they were all talking to me. I lifted that extra large orange in my hands and let go. For a moment we all watched, and then we all rejoiced with a victory. The proudest moment was when I made the game winner in our national championship basketball game, although I sure was nervous.
