  1. Green energy and power reduce International school UWEKIND Sofia

  2. Schools tend to be high-energy users with stretched budgets and can benefit financially from controlling their energy consumption. Our school is not an exception in this respect and during the last stage of our project we focused on reducing the consumption of energy .

  3. BIOMASS SUN WATER Where does the energy we use come from? GEOTHERMAL FOSSIL FUELS TIDAL NUCLEAR AND …

  4. Our students explored different ways of generating electrical energy.

  5. What do we use electricityin our School for?

  6. How much electricity is consumed? The pupils monitor on a regular basis the school consumption of energy such as electricity and heating. Students have made a map of the location of electrical switches and lights. We mostly use 36 W fluorescent lamps (T8) . They have calculated that Uwekind uses approximately 9kWh ofelectricity per hour just for lighting.

  7. How to reduce energy consumption? During Physics, IT, English and German classes students discussed and prepared tips how to reduce consumption of energy and other resources at school. They prepared posters and labels, which were placed at appropriate places in school.

  8. Tips to reduce the use of electricity: • Unplug • Unplug your chargers when you're not charging. Every house is full of little plastic power supplies to charge cell phones, digital cameras, cordless tools and other personal gadgets. Keep them unplugged until you need them. • Use power strips to switch off televisions, home theater equipment, and stereos when you're not using them. Even when you think these products are off, together, their "standby" consumption can be equivalent to that of a 75 or 100 watt light bulb running continuously. • Set Computers to Sleep and Hibernate • Enable the "sleep mode" feature on your computer, allowing it to use less power during periods of inactivity. • Configure your computer to "hibernate" automatically after 30 minutes or so of inactivity. The "hibernate mode" turns the computer off in a way that doesn't require you to reload everything when you switch it back on. Allowing your computer to hibernate saves energy and is more time-efficient than shutting down and restarting your computer from scratch. When you're done for the day, shut down. • Turn Out the Lights • Don't forget to flick the switch when you leave a room. • Remember this at the school, too. Turn out or dim the lights in unused rooms, and when you step out for lunch. Work by daylight when possible. A typical commercial building uses more energy for lighting than anything else.

  9. Temperature monitoring • Control Temperature! • Students monitor the temperature in their classroom and when it exceeds 20ºC, they switch off the heaters.

  10. The Earth hour was held on 26th March 2011.On this day students prepared lanterns, which they took home and lit in the evening. Those lanterns were made by used glass jars, paper and other recycled materials. Earth hour
