  4. 1. Summarize Information - Obviously, taking the ferry to the Giants game is a good idea. It saves time, you don’t have to find parking, you don’t have to fight traffic and it is good for the environment because it is one less car on the road. It is a win win!

  5. 2. Encourage Action - Ask your parents if you can take the ferry next time you go to the game. Say: “Mom, Dad, how about we save time, money and help the world by taking the ferry to the game?” This could make our Giants experience even better.

  6. 3. Provide Food for Thought… - To sum up, when you are going on vacation, it is important to make sure you have everything you need. Make a list and think ahead to help you remember. This will ensure you have a smooth and happy trip, and are not left wishing you had brought something you left behind.

  7. 4. Convince the reader - The point is, participate. Community Service is a wonderful way to help your community. Taking a few minutes every week, month or even year, is a special way to give back as well as feel good. If your friends talk about taking part in Community Service, encourage them, and think about taking part yourself. For more information in your area, simply google: town + community service. When you take part in community service, you are being a good citizen which is an important part of living in our world.

  8. 5. Try repetition, try repetition, try repetition, try repetition…. a) Repeat a word or phrase to emphasize your thesis. Reading the classics, reading news magazines and reading textbooks will definitely improve your vocabulary. b) Use sentence fragments and repeat words for emphasis. Water down the drain as we brush our teeth. Water from improperly placed lawn sprinkles. Water used to wash driveways. To save this precious resource we must acknowledge waste and take time to turn off the faucets.

  9. !!! Get Emotional!!! Use appropriate emotion - Animals must not suffer. They cannot ask for help and they need you and me to stand-up for them. If we recognize neglect, we must take action and speak-up!

  10. “Use a Quotation.” Following an amazing day of fun and coming together, to support Miles, a five-year-old boy living with Leukemia whose dream to be Batkid for a day came true, President Obama sent words of well wishes: “Way to go Miles, way to save Gotham!” http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_24534696/president-barack-obama-thanks-batkid-miles-scott-video

  11. Use an anecdote (brief story) - My mother is 78. She recently had knee surgery. The operation lasted 90 minutes, but the recovery included a ten day stay at the rehab clinic. The nurses took great care of her, but I know that her charming personality helped. She thanked he nurses for their efforts, she complimented them when they had finished a task and she smiled even when therapy became a challenge. Her positive attitude encouraged all of the nurses to give her great service. Those who complain about poor service might want to try my mother’s strategy – charm and be kind.

  12. End on a Positive Note **Top tip**: readers like to end on a positive note, so keep it up-beat… Six Flags in summer is so much fun. The lines can be long, but the rides are so awesome, it is always worth it! (not: When you go to Six Flags in summer be prepared to stand in line all day.)

  13. Imitate the Professionals
