  1. Match Meching Class May 2019

  2. This is more than just a battle of wits - this is a battle of bonds.

  3. In Match Meching, two players will not only work together piloting an advanced Mecha war machine to fight an alien threat but work together to win the heart of the character of their dreams through a simple dating mechanic.

  4. The planet Earth is being invaded by strange alien creatures. Creatures who the government classifies as AFI’s. Why these beings invaded nobody is sure but they seem hellbent on destroying everything in their way. The only thing that can stop them is the creation of advanced mechas known as GEMINI. • The only drawback with GEMINI mechas are that they need two pilots to operate - and at the moment there is only one mecha in functioning condition. • An elite academy was created to teach and form the top GEMINI mecha pilots. The player takes the role of one of these elite students and is now tasked with saving the world from annihilation. KEY STORY

  25. Research Questions

  26. Digital Prototype Outline • A Main Menu featuring credits, start game, and quit button. • A Hub world showcasing four characters where the player can make choices in a dialogue system. The dialogue will then lead to the combat scene. • The combat scene showcasing the mecha’s combat & abilities.

  27. Digital Prototype Changes From the first prototype shown to the last, not only has it visually improved but also functionality. With enemies roaming and attacking the player as well as the player able to kill the enemies. The new prototype features win and loss mechanics as well as a properly sized cityscape.

  28. Digital Prototype Changes From the first prototype shown to the last, not only has it visually improved but also functionality. Before the prototype shown did not have dialogue or choices, there was no clear idea of what was being done in the scene - however now there’s an idea of not only the aesthetic the game is trying to achieve but the level of writing as well with humorous characters and a school enviroment.

  29. Physical Prototype Outline • Enemy can see player in nested area. • Player has a rifle and laser. • Monster has 4 legs, tail, body, head. Indepent HP, monster overall HP • Player has a heat system that can immobilize the player if overheat occurs • Player can jump anywhere within the map (not inside buildings)

  30. First Iteration • To much information for the player to track directly. • Visual tracking of AI (possibly use second board). • Clearer instructions for environment damage. • Damage is relatively balanced for this iteration.

  31. Second Iteration • Lower Attack Range • Monster Armor Increased on Head • Playtest Duration was short • Laser Rifle never used • Player died immediately

  32. Third Iteration • Lower Attack Range • Monster Armor Increased on Head • Playtest Duration was increased • Laser Rifle never used • Monster was slain • Changed some rules and clarity issues

  33. Final Iteration • Forced player to use Laser Rifle • Playtest length was short • Player Died • Monster was 1HP away from death • Laser helped kill time in play sessions

  34. Results • When the game is designed for the player to win the results remain the same but defeat is still possible. • Environment was not used as an escape but instead used situational skills were used mostly to escape. • Created a jump that was used in both defensive and offensive means. • Created a boss that can be both defeated and terrifying.

  35. Player The player takes the role of the top GEMINI mecha pilot and is tasked with saving the world from annihilation from the AFI’s. The player character’s name, gender, personality and actions are all decided by the player. The player will start the game attempting to find a compatible partner while they pilot the GEMINI mecha battling AFI’s and by the end of the game will find not only a compatible partner but also a life long partner.
