Support important ideas and viewpoints through accurate and detailed references to the text and to other works. • d. Demonstrate an understanding of the author’s use of stylistic devices and an appreciation of the effects created. • e. Identify and assess the impact of perceived ambiguities, nuances, and complexities within the text.

  3. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the significant ideas in works or passages. • What is the author, playwright or poet saying? • What are the main ideas? • Is it important? • What is important?

  4. Support important ideas and viewpoints through accurate and detailed references to the text and to other works. • How do you know what the author’s points are? • Can you use quotes from the text to show or prove the author’s points? • Find quotes in the text to support your ideas

Demonstrate an understanding of the author’s use of stylistic devices and an appreciation of the effects created. • Does the author use figurative language? • Does the author use symbolism? • What do the figurative language and symbolism mean? • Do they support your ideas? • Does the author use sensory or emotional words that make you feel a certain way? How does this support your ideas?

  8. Do this: • Ask the questions and write about what the literature makes you feel and think about. Most of the time THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER – YOU JUST HAVE TO PROVE YOUR POINT. • Make your point, use the quotes from the text and EXPLAIN IT!!!

  10. Act IV Prompt: Foreshadowing is a literary technique used to heighten the dramatic tension of a work. Whenever a writer hints at what is to come in a literary work, that writer is foreshadowing future events. Identify one example of this literary technique from Act IV. Explain how the use of foreshadowing builds suspense and helps prepare the reader for what is to come. Explain how foreshadowing may convey important information about the theme, and discuss the importance of foreshadowing in the overall play.

Just a few lines of information is necessary. (think “tweet” summary”) • • Write in complete sentences. • • Write coherent and well-developed paragraphs. • • Use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
