  4. UN Secretariat Entities The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 member states. The Secretariat is one of the 6 main organs of the UN, is organized along departmental lines. At the head of the United Nations Secretariat is the Secretary-General.

What are UN Peace Operations? • UN Peace Operations bring together the GA, SC, UN Partners, troops/police contributors and host governments in a combined effort to maintain international peace and security. The strength of this model lies in the legitimacy of the UN Charter and in the wide range of participating actors which resource it. • UN Peacekeepers wear their countries’ uniform and are identified by their UN blue helmet or beret. • Civilian staff of peacekeeping operations are international civil servants, recruited and deployed by the UN Secretariat. 6

For those applicants that do no hold a Masters, but hold a Bachelors or equivalent, an additional 2 years of relevant work experience will be required. English and French are the two working languages of the Secretariat 12
