  3. WHO’s recommendation • at least 30 minutes • moderate intensity • on most days of the week

  4. Global and local situations • At least 60% of global population fails to achieve the WHO’s recommendation • At least 60% of local adult did not conduct moderate PA>10min in last one week

  5. Promoting health is everyone’s business • Health professionals • Individuals • Community groups

  6. Role of healthcare professionals • Brief advice from a doctor is effective in motivating patients for PA • at least a short-term effect • for patients with or without chronic diseases • for sedentary population

  7. Role of healthcare professionals • Effectiveness of brief advice could be increased by- • Providing advice in written form • Providing information booklets • Matching with stages of readiness for change • Follow-up session • No evidence on exercise referral schemes

Role of individuals • Promoting a sense of responsibility for one’s health • Adopting a healthy life-style • Doing more exercise • Exercise prescription sheet- • intended for client’s use and retention • building ownership of their health • not a drug prescription sheet to be received by pharmacists • not a exercise referral form

  9. Role of individuals • Incorporate physical activities into their daily life- • Use stairs instead of elevators • Walk instead of traveling by vehicles • Do more stretching exercise • Be active in leisure time- • Hiking, jogging • Joining exercise programmes

  10. Role of the community groups • Establishing a conducive environment for PA • Educating and publicising the importance of PA • Providing choices of facilities for exercise • Organising programmes for exercise for general population

Community Support • Informed more than 100 relevant NGOs in the 2 districts (KT, TKO) • Conducted a briefing to introduce the EPP • Collected information from major organisations with exercise facilities/activities • Publicise the information through the website: http://exerciseRx.cheu.gov.hk
