Shape and design flexibility along with the ease of installation of wood panels is a favourable factor for architects and homeowners too. Choosing the right kind of wood panels can be quite challenging and needs to be done with great precision. Some of the common types are: Plywood – these are typically thin wooden sheets that are glued together to form ply. Plywood is available in two types – the MR or the Moisture Resistance Ply is right for all places except the bath and the kitchen; and BWR or Boiling Water Resistance Ply that is a perfect fit for the kitchen and the bathroom.
Blockboard - consists of cube-shaped wooden strips placed and pasted under high pressure between two thin plywood layers. This wooden panel is quite sturdy – does not bend or wrap but can crush with heavy foot traffic. This panel is quite a suitable choice for making block board doors, tables, beds, settees, wall panels, and book shelves. This panelling material too comes in the MR and the BWR grades. Particle Board – This wooden panel material is made up of wooden fibres, sawdust, shavings or chips that are usually produced as waste from wood reengineering processes. These pieces are glued together under pressure to get the desired shape and size. They are the cheapest panels and are used for making beds, cabinets and furniture items.
Medium Density Fibre or MDF – This material is made from wood pulp, resin and glue. These are cheap and do not bend or wrap easily and hence used for making furniture and wooden shelves. They are also used for making wooden decorative items. While wood is time-tested and is indeed eternally beautiful, it is important to choose the right type from the best brand for the perfect looking interiors.
