  5. Answer 2 • “The official ration in the ghetto probably amounted to about 800 calories a day per person. This was half the ration for non-Jewish Poles and a third the ration for Germans in Poland. As the Nazis knew, people cannot survive for very long on 800 calories a day (One peanut butter sandwich on white bread contains over 350 calories) (Feldman 149).   7. Answer 3 • “The first ghetto was set up in Piotrkow on 28th October 1939. Jews living in rural areas had their property confiscated and they were rounded up and sent to ghettos in towns and cities.”

  9. Answer 4 • “There were over 500 ghettos scattered across Eastern Europe.”
